Coors Distributing Company
Denver, Colorado
SubZero provided specialty design/build services to Pro-Logis for a new 82,000 square
foot beverage distribution center with 27 feet clear height on a fast track construction
schedule. The facility has 35,500 square feet of +34°F cooler, which operates on
a 24/7 high capacity shipping & receiving schedule.
The refrigeration system includes a light industrial refrigeration skid with six
semi-hermetic screw compressors, refrigerant receiver, oil separator and liquid
line filter-dryers. The skid is pre-wired with an RMCC control system. Refrigerant
R-22 is fed to ceiling-hung air units arranged for direct expansion and electric
defrost. Evaporative condensing is employed with an additional circuit for compressor
oil cooling. Induced draft unit has pan heaters designed to allow for operation
down to 40°F and a 2-speed fan motor for reduced load conditions. Refrigeration
piping was installed to meet Coors' strict quality control standards (including
TiG welding and x-ray inspection) using a combination of ACR tubing and A53B seamless
steel.
The RMCC has controllers, input and output communication boards, remote communication
software and a variety of sensors, probes and transducers. All electrical components
in the refrigeration system are wired back to the refrigeration skid for centralized
control.
Special loading bay door openings were fitted with motion sensor actuated high-speed
roll-up doors, fire doors and horizontal recirculating air curtains. While loading
shipments overnight, the roll-up doors are held open and the air curtains are energized
for maximum travel capacity. Other doors provided include cold-storage man doors
and additional high-speed roll-up doors for six other forklift openings.
The facility, which is owned and operated by Coors Distributing Company, replaced
their older Adams County facility. Beverage shipping started in March of 2002.
